AI for Global Health Initiative

As part of my ongoing involvement with Public Health through InfoAFYA, my team and I are developing a Large Language Model (LLM) to support the planning and execution of Social Behavior Change (SBC) interventions to improve health outcomes for People living with Sickle Cell Disease (PLSCD) in Kenya.

Guided by insights from SCD patients and specialists, we will train and fine tune an LLM with SCD management practices and additional open data relevant to designing interventions for Social Behavior Change (SBC). The LLM will be used to generate tailored health messages to support PLSCD patients through the different disease management stages and to empower them to take an active role in their health. This will help reduce the stigma around the disease and improve their quality of life.

This project will run for one year, from July 2024 to June 2025, is supported by Science for Africa Foundation, as part of the Global Grand Challenges.
